You don’t have to have oodles of cash to personalise your home to suit your tastes.
Andrew Menzies, director at Red Candy, has some tips to kick-start the transformation.
1. A SPLASH OF COLOUR GOES A LONG WAY
Don’t be scared by those who try and tell you otherwise, and if you’re a fan of a strong look, paint your walls with bright colours.
If that’s not your style, find a colour that you love and accessorise rooms in your home with all kinds of different shades of blue, green or red – any colour that you love the most. It’s your house, decorate it how you want.
The cheapest way to add colour to a room would be to grab a tin of your favourite colour of paint and create a feature wall. If you don’t want to paint, though, why not make things cosy and scatter a mixed assortment of different-hued pillows around the room?
2. PUT YOUR HOBBIES TO USE
If you have a talent, why not display it in your home. If you can paint, hang some of your paintings up proudly. If you can knit or sew, why not drape one of your beautiful tapestries on the wall, and if you can play a musical instrument put it on display.
Facebook pages like Nifty can also help you make all sorts of crafty bits and bobs which look fantastic.
3. MIX IT UP
You don’t have to play things safe if you don’t want to. Just because you have old fashioned, porcelain teacups doesn’t mean you can’t also have vintage tin advert signs hanging on your wall. Don’t be afraid to mix and match.
4. VISIT FLEA MARKETS AND CAR BOOT SALES
Don’t be put off by some of the tat you see at these events. For every 10 bits of junk you reject you will find something perfect for your home, and at an affordable price. These markets can also be a great way to find very unique pieces of furniture.
